2025.02.15-2025.05.05 Victory over victory, Havremagasinet, Boden. Curated by Sona Stepanyan and Natasha Dahnberg. Titled Victory over the Victory this exhibition strives to touch upon some of the current and historical events, related to questions of war, loss, sorrow and memory. The participants’ collective focus revolves around the theme of communication in times of conflict, as well as the notion of a victory. Driven by artists’ direct and indirect experiences and active socio-political stance, several questions are put to the fore: is it possible to win a war, what defines a victory and who becomes a winner? For us who live in Sweden and follow various wars through the media narration or friends’ testimonies and personal stories, it is important to listen and take a chance to reflect together on our own experiences and values. Therefore we have invited international and Swedish artists to show their works. We see this exhibition as a possibility to align with participants’ diverse artistic practices and experiences by voicing their opinions.

Konstnärer som deltar i utställningen: Natasha Dahnberg, Mathilda Frykberg, William E. Jones, Slava Mogutin, Kristina Norman, Marko Raat, Jaanus Samma, Kateryna Seheda.

2020.05.25 Interviewed in C-print by Ashik Zaman, The spring graduates 2020. Read the whole interview here: https://www.c-print.se/post/the-spring-graduates-2020
“What happens when your planned degree exhibition at a credible and well-cherished art venue is canned in a force majeur situation like the reality of the past months, and you are necessarily forced in short time to adapt and translate your work for an online platform instead? We speak to five highly talented 2020 graduates in Photography at HDK-Valand about their respective degree projects and aspirations. What could easily have been your run-off-the-mill interview instead turns into one of the most poignant exchanges altogether we’ve had with artists in a long time, with each of Matilde Søes Rasmussen, Hanna Antonsson, Monika Balu, Oskar Kardemark and Mathilda Frykberg, sharing thoughts and experiences that genuinely will leave a mark on your mind. “I like the idea of starting a simple life with maybe less money but more time. Now, when so much takes place online, maybe geographical distances are not creating the same gaps anymore”, notes Mathilda Frykberg.”

UGot Distance is this year’s degree show in photography from HDK-Valand. The exhibition consists of a visual part as well as in-depth text works. In the current situation, where we have to keep a social distance, artworks intended for a physical exhibition have transformed and new ways of presentation have been considered. Students from BFA3 and MFA2 have taken the exhibition space into a digital world, letting more people get a chance to see it.
